Introduction

Toad, also known as Kinopio (キノピオ), is the resident of the Mushroom Kingdom, and a regular friend of Mario and the gang.

He has relatively similar attributes to Yoshi and Peach, but suffers from a much lighter weight which, while advantageous when applied within the context of speedrunning, also slightly hinders him in multiplayer formats despite remaining a solid character overall outside of Battle Mode.

Overview

Toad serves as the lightest character in the game, who fares virtually as well as his lightweight homologues in VS formats, while being considered the weakest character for Battle Mode.
Strengths Weaknesses
  • Increased Speed: Outside of Battle Mode, Toad passively has an internal increase of +4 to his speed value, which makes him not only naturally faster, but also viable for Time Trials.
  • Good Triple Tap: His Triple Tapping capabilities paired with a stronger base acceleration than any non-lightweight gives Toad better recovery potential overall.
  • Sharp Handling: Akin to the other lightweights, Toad's sharper turning angle means he can take driftless corners better than heavies and middleweights alike.
  • Better Off-Road: While boost items should still even the playing field to some extent, having access to stronger off-road capabilities means shroomless cuts becomes a much more viable strategy as a result of it.
  • Bottom-1 Weight: He has the weakest bulk in the entire game to the point of becoming vulnerable to even the likes of his fellow lightweights, which makes him notably riskier to play in Battle Mode since any mistake can potentially spiral into dire consequences, no matter the matchup.
  • Handling Speed Loss: Toad loses more speed from turning without drifting than any middleweight or heavyweight would have, which means he'll have to rely more on pure drifting to maintain his velocity.

● Better off-road. Beats any non-lightweight.
● Highest base acceleration in the game by far. Equal to the other lightweights.

Steer ● Marginally higher turn angle when compared to the Mario Brothers.
● Speed retention while steering is weaker than average.
