Introduction

Bowser, also known as Koopa (クッパ), is the main antagonist of the Mario series.

He is the big boy of this game, with a larger frame and stronger weight that makes him an absolute menace in Battle Mode while remaining decently capable in other multiplayer formats.

Overview

Bowser is the heavyweight to beat them all, since his recovery potential and stronger bulk makes him surprisingly applicable in VS modes, while being the uncontested Top-1 character in Battle Mode.
Strengths Weaknesses
  • Top-1 Weight: Of all the cast, Bowser has by far the strongest weight of any characters, which forces other players to respect his presence, especially in Battle Mode where he is king.
  • Good Triple Tap: He's the only non-lightweight character to have a proper triple tap acceleration, which makes him able to recover from obstacles and bad turns almost as well, if not better than the rest of cast due to his stronger bulk.
  • Easier Pick-Ups: His slightly larger hurtbox means he has an easier time catching item boxes, and since movement is naturally slippery in this game, a good Bowser will still be able to dodge obstacles without struggle.
  • Stable Handling: His lower handling angle paired with better driftless speed retention means he will have an easier time adjusting his angles than non-heavyweights pilots would.
  • Tougher Evasion: Conversely, his larger hurtbox makes it slightly harder for him to evade obstacles on the map, though this especially applies to bombs, which can still be evaded with a well timed hop.
  • Lower Base Speed: Since his speed is virtually the same as the other heavies and middleweights, Bowser will lose a bit of time over lightweights, which makes him unviable for Time Trials.
  • Weaker Off-Road: Without Shrooms or Stars to compensate for it, Bowser (much like the other heavies) will have a harder time cutting through off-road, which can be quite detrimental in a game that relies more on these types of cuts.

Movelist

Accelerate ● Average top speed. Lower than the lightweights.
● Weaker off-road. Slower than any non-lightweight.
● Decent base acceleration. Slightly worse than lightweights due to pothole speed growth, but otherwise much better than middleweights.
A
Triple Tap A ● Boasts the highest Triple Tap modifier alongside all the lightweights.
● He is the only non-lightweight character in the game to have this distinction.
● Due to his slightly worse acceleration, his effective Triple Tap velocity remains marginally slower than lightweights.
AAA
Spin-Turn Mode ● Swerving is stable, and will cause much less circular motion than the other weight classes.
● Very practical in Battle Mode as it can be used to easily catch whiffed Item Boxes.
[AB]
Steer ● Lower turn angle when compared to both midweights and lightweights.
● To make up for it, speed retention while steering is stronger than average.
4-6 / 🢀🢂
Drift ● Average drift speed. Lower than the lightweights.
● Otherwise equalised in core attributes, like the rest of the cast.
